about lilian crum

Lilian Crum explores visual uncertainty through a psychological lens. Through intuition and restraint, Sumi ink is gradually pulled into loose, thread-like forms that are enigmatic, anthropomorphic and organic. Although the images cannot be logically comprehended, they flicker with a quiet sense of familiarity that can be intuitively understood. The forms shift in and out of themselves, evoking impressions of humans, animals, and forms from nature. The work is generally large-scale, creating an immersive visual experience that, while quiet, sustains a long period of reflection.

Lilian Crum (b.1985) is a Detroit-based visual artist and designer. She is an Assistant Professor and the Director of the Graphic Design and Interaction Design programs at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield and Detroit, MI.
