The Alison Milne Gallery

In this exhibition, G n’ S Projects use popular culture and iconic imagery to create a “pop surreal” narrative on the human experience. The work is at once provocative and playful, combining sex, poetry, and socio-political commentary to challenge the viewer’s curiosity of life in general. SEPTEMBER 22 – OCTOBER 23, 2011.

In our continuing series of art installations, Alison Milne Gallery and PSR are proud to present REFLECT, by artist George Whiteside.

Join us on June 2nd, at 77 Portland, for the opening event!  Please RSVP to mo@kingwestmag.ca

You are invited to ARTIFACT, our group exhibition for CONTACT Photography Festival, featuring works by; Claudette Abrams, Anthea Baxter-Page, Cara Cole, Leonard Schlichting, Harley Valentine, George Whiteside and Paula Wilson.

The group exhibition combines diverse approaches and visual associations to create holistically deeper alyers of narrative, meaning and complexity.  Whether it be an allusive presence suggested by a human imprint on the environment or a defined figure implying its placement within a setting, the viewer is asked to piece together what is being intimated through a visual language of artifice and artifact.  Curated by Anthea Baxter-Page and Claudette Abrams.

Alison Milne Gallery cordially invites you to ALWAYS ON CAMERA: Portraits by Miguel Jacob

Opening Reception:  Wednesday, November 10.  7pm – 10pm

The Alison Milne Gallery is pleased to present the work of fashion photographer Miguel Jacob. ALWAYS ON CAMERA is a selection of black-and-white portraits photographed in regimented time slots of 40 minutes each. The subjects, who were asked to ‘perform’ for the camera, include artists, musicians, drag queens, eccentrics, dancers, models, designers and activists. Rather than attempting to capture the “personality” or “soul” of the sitter, Jacob is much more interested in the process of performance, its geometry and the interaction of the subject with costume and minimal props in a vacuous studio space creating unique, graphic and arresting portraiture.

Miguel Jacob is a Toronto-based photographer, born and raised in Lima, Peru. His work is much sought-after by such commercial clients as FASHION Magazine, Chatelaine, GLOW, Canada’s Next Top Model, The Bay, Universal Records, and Warner Brothers. He has also photographed many celebrities/personalities including Michael Bublé, Sass Jordan, Mia Kirshner, Kate Voegele, Tara Spencer-Nairn and Kreesha Turner. This is Miguel’s first solo show, and it’s not to be missed.
