Wishful Thinking

Yesterday was a little bit of a shock with its -16 c weather. We’ve got the colder temperatures but where is the snow? As we wait for our snowscape to appear here’s an installation created by Tokujin Yoshioka which captures the essences of nature through the artificial simulation of snow. You can also check a video here, posted by Dezeen to feel the full impact of Yoshioka’s installation.

A friend sent me this link this afternoon and I have been dreaming of the lodge ever since.  A perfect combination of stunning landscapes, fantastic art and comforting interiors.  My next vacation spot is the Graff Estate.

Florence Broadhurst

Ever since her death in 1977, Australian born, Florance Broadhurst’s stunning designs have been showcased in various forms.  The latest form being hand woven rugs that are produced in Nepal and consist of hemp, wool, nettle, bamboo silk and pure silk!  These rare pieces of art are on a limited release and are even more spectacular to see in person.  I recommend a trip to Canadian supplier, Modern Weave to do just that!

I love the way that ACE hotels have built their hotel websites.  Each of the four landing pages tells a story about the featured city through square + rectangular photographs.  Great eye candy!

The December / January “Elle Decor” explores a family home in Idaho that I think is the perfect holiday retreat; savory, warm and nostalgic.   Below are some of the featured rooms…

Merci Paris!

I was lucky enough to be in Paris France last week and I don’t think that I could love anywhere more.  One of my favourite parts of the trip was visiting Merci, a beautiful large-scale department store in which at all of the proceeds from sales go to run a co-op for women in Madagascar.  This charming store carries everything from cocktail napkins and vintage chairs to the latest Repetto ballet flats.  What a store!!

Mad Men

A friend told me to check out this behind the scenes look at shooting of Mad Men through the eyes of Rolling Stone.  I can barely wait to watch the next season for 1960s inspired clothing and mid century modern furniture!

Jennifer Post

I have great admiration for Jennifer Post’s use of negative space and saturated colour in her interior design.  1st dibs has a great “style compass” article on her work this month along with several other exciting reads!

Check out these nature inspired textiles from Hable Construction.  Hand-printed on a cotton/linen blend, the fabrics bring a whole new level of interest to your old sofa!  Especially adore the pink and green colours together.
